Ouaganet.com: A site about Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a land-locked French speaking country in West-Africa with an area roughly equal to 106,000 square miles.
The nearest sea port is in Ivory Coast, at approximately 1,145 km.

Based on projections for 2006, the population is estimated at 13,925,313 inhabitants. Although French is the official language, there are about 66 different languages spoken in the country which represent diverse ethnic groups.
These ethnic groups coexist in harmony making Burkina Faso a model peaceful country in Africa.

Burkina Faso means "Country of Integrity". In August 1984, the country rejected its old colonial name of Upper Volta (Haute Volta) and endorsed the name Burkina Faso which reflects the values and the aspirations of the people.
The capital of Burkina Faso is Ouagadougou and it hosts every year the festival of African films known as FESPACO as well as the International Arts Festival, SIAO.

Burkina Faso is renowned for its hospitality, friendliness, integrity, and tranquil lifestyle. Visitors will love that aspect of Burkina Faso where hospitality which is rooted in the burkinabe culture is found virtually in any part of the country.

Burkina Faso is economically speaking a poor country. Poverty has a strong grip on many villages of the country and undermines the well-being of the people. In spite of that, villagers have a strong sense of community, hospitality, integrity, dignity, love and sharing.

As an organization, OUAGANET goal is to provide charitable help to the rural villages of Burkina Faso in the area of education, health and self-empowerment projects. We also aim to raise awareness of Burkina Faso by bringing you pictures and videos of the people, the nature and environment as well as cultural articles.

ORGANISATION MISSION STATEMENT
OuagaNet Inc. has the following main objectives:

1. To help the poor and disadvantaged youth of Burkina Faso in rural areas obtain a basic education or a vocational training.

2. To assist rural communities with primary education needs by obtaining the necessary funding to build and equip schools as well as supporting students with school supplies.

3. To sustain life and prevent illness by working to obtain donations of medical supplies, first aid equipment and vitamins for deprived public clinics and to support community health volunteers in rural areas with donations of medicine.

4. To organize and educate the villagers about basic health care and STDs, by conducting community health programs, raising awareness about high blood pressure, and encouraging trained medical staff to undertake benevolent heath programs in Burkina Faso.

5. To assist rural communities with clean water needs by realizing wells that can support their drinking and cooking needs.

Construction of a six-classrooms elementary school.

A school is highly vital to a rural village in Burkina Faso. Often, when illiteracy is as high as 90% or above in some villages, an elementary school can change the dynamics of the village by graduating young children who can read and write as well impart some new ideas to their parents. A village without a school is less likely to develop as illiteracy is a major source of...

Do you really get concerned about extreme poverty in Africa?

I worry more about global warming than that
Everyone for himself, God for all!
I am more concerned about mounting gas prices
It is a problem that concerns me a great deal
I only care about what is happening in my backyard
Why should I? I am not Bono.
